Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Entomology is offered by VCRC since 1997. The curriculum of the course is designed for capacity building in vectors and vector borne diseases and their control to impart the underlying techniques in entomological studies.

Duration of the Course:
This is a full time course over one academic year.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

Category - I

General: Candidates seeking admission under this category should have passed in I class (II class in the case of SC/ST) in one of the following examinations in 12+3+2 pattern of any University accepted by the Academic Council of Pondicherry University (i) M.Sc. with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects, or (ii) M.Sc. with Life Sciences.

Category II -

In-service: In-service: Candidates seeking admission under this category should be employed in either Government or Non-government agencies and sponsored by the employer. Such candidates should have passed (i) B.Sc. (12+3 pattern) with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects and must have 5 years of regular service or (ii) M.Sc. (12+3+2 pattern) with Zoology or Biology as one of the subjects. The candidates on permanent service must forward their application with a "No Objection" or sponsorship certificate from their employer.

METHOD OF SELECTION

Selection of the candidates belonging to category I as well as category II will be based upon their performance in the entrance test, which include a written test and viva-voce. Entrance test will be held in Pondicherry only, and the date will be intimated to the eligible applicants individually.

Paper I : Anophelines and their medical importance – Malaria

Paper II: Culicines and their Medical Importance

Paper III: Sand flies, Black flies, Muscoid flies and their medical Importance

Paper IV: Fleas, Lice, Ticks, Mites and their medical importance

Paper V: Bugs, Cockroaches, Cyclops and Venomous arthropods

Paper VI: Chemical Control of Vectors

Paper VII: Biological & Environmental Methods for the Control of Vectors

Paper VIII: Integrated Methods of Vector Management
