Pilot scale Programme on Co-administration of DEC+Albendazole

Mass Drug Administration of DEC(6mg/kg)+Albendazole(400mg) Programme for the year 2002 was carried out in

1 district of Kerala (25th to 27th March)

4 districts in Orissa(27th to 29th January)

Why Dec+Albendazole?

Albendazole is one of the most widely used anti-parasite drugs for curing intestinal worm infections of children, and when co-administered as a single treatment with the anti-filarial drug DEC(6mg/kg), it also enhances the ability of these drugs to stop the spread of filarial infection.

Mechanism of Drug Distribution:

State governments are resposible for drug distribution. This was carried out by utilizing the existing health infrastructure of the respective stae governemnts, as well as through other governmental and non-governemntal agencies. Drug was distributed by door-to-door visit.

Jan 2002 - Geohelminth Survey for prevalence of geohelminths
December 2001 - February 2002 - Entomological Survey for vector infection & infectivity
29 th March - 3rd April 2002 - Consumption Survey
