REVISED STRATEGIES
- A revised strategy based on "Annual single dose mass DEC administration" with districts as units was launched by NAMP for control of lymphatic filariasis in India.
- Single dose DEC mass therapy(6mg/kg body weight) once a year for 2-3 years (to be followed by DEC medicated salt for 3-5 years).
- Management of acute and chronic filariasis cases through referral services at selective centres.
- IEC for inculcating individual and community based protective and preventive measures for filaria control, and
- Continuation of anti-vector measures in all NFCP towns as an adjunct to single dose DEC and mf carriers detected in clinics.
- Recommended annual single day mass chemotherapy
- Entire population excluding infants and old people with chronic illness.
- Atleast 80% coverage of target population with emphasis on => 15 years of age class
- Dosage of DEC by age class
- To ensure that drug is swallowed in the presence of provider. Drug not to be left with community members for later consumption
- School children to be covered during midday meal programme
- The community should be motivated for drug intake and forewarned for possible adverse reactions
